This is basically sort of a reveiw of the Nintendo 3DS, so far.
I don't plan on editing the last parts it, becuase I'm lazy. I just basically copied and pasted it from my DeviantArt journal
This journal is mostly a list of the pros and cons of getting a Nintendo 3DS, written by me(an experienced 3DS user)
Some of the reasons I bought it originally, were:
-My DS Lite is getting old and breaking(the only DS I had)
-My old DS Browser(DS Lite version) no longer works with most wifi access points, and is too slow
-My DS Lite had problems with my old router
-FLIPNOTE HATENA!!!!
CONS:
Unfortunately, I've been disappointed on two of those reasons. The 3DS doesn't come with Flipnote(which I knew that), the 3DS Browser, or the 3DS Shop thingy. So, the 3DS shop and Browser are going to be available in a later update, which kinda disappoints me, becuase I don't like the anticipation.
Those are the two main disappointments. Another is that the battery life isn't very long, so you're better off playing your original DS games on your DS lite, unless you're willing to keep the 3DS on the charger most of the time that you're not using it.
From now on, all new released DS games will only be compatible with the Nintendo 3DS, which sorta sucks. I also heard that some 3DS's have randomly crashed. Mine hasn't done that yet, and Nintendo is probably working on fixing that.
PROS:
-Miis can be made, and transferred from wiis
-Street pass is a neat feature, in which you can exchange information while the 3DS is in sleep mode, such as miis, music, and certain game information stuff. You can choose to turn this feature off, and it works best in large crowds(especially places where people have 3DS's
-The 3DS can connect to newer internet routers that older DS's can't
-It has a 3D feature, in which you can view 3DS games in 3D, and you can take 3D pictures.
-It has augmented reality games, which is where you put a certain card that comes with the 3DS, onto a flat surface and you can shoot stuff that isn't really there, and you can use it to make certain Nintendo characters(such as Toon Link) do poses near or on certain objects or places.
-Nintendo will be releasing 3D videos every once in a while.
-The 3DS comes with a 2GB SD card, which is necessary for storing information, and can store music and pictures.
-Music on SD cards no longer have to be m4a format, but can now be mp3, when being played on the 3DS.
-Pictures on the wii can be viewed on the 3DS, making it easier to share your experiences with friends.
-The 3DS keeps track of all the games you play and how long you play them, and also has a built in pedometer that gives you 10 play coins a day which can be used in games(1000 steps is recquired for 10 play coins.
-You can now see when your friends are online, unless they choose for you not to see.
-The 3DS has a weird game called "Face Raiders"
-You can use streetpass miis to play certain games and earn your mii hats.
-The 3DS has an analog stick.
-It has notifications that notifies you about stuff like how the wii does.
-You can take notes or use the DS Browser, while playing a game(when the DS Browser is released in an update)
-You can use the note taking thing to draw stuff and put on the SD card.
-You can use the picture viewer to draw stuff and put it on the SD card.
-You can play your DS games on it.
-Flionote Hatena and other DSiWare should be available once the 3DS Shop thing is released in an update
In my opinion, getting a 3DS this early probably isn't worth it, unless you plan to get buy it for the games this early. But if you plan on using it for the browser, DSiWare, GameBoy emulator games, or the possible video features, then I suggest waiting until mid-May
But, I definitely recommend getting one eventually. It's worth it!
EDIT:
I just finished playing some of my DS games on my 3DS(with my headphones on(, and I noticed there is a big improvement in sound quality.
(I often play my DS Lite with my headphones on, so I can have an awesome time xD)
IMPORTANT EDIT:
DS games might not actual take up as much of the battery as the 3DS games and features do, but I don't know for sure. I guess it's actually too early to tell for sure
EDIT from a newer journal:
NINTENDO 3DS FEATURES TO YET ARRIVE AND SUCH...
Well, it took me until today to realize that the Nintendo Channel had the GDC(Game Developers Conference) part where Iwata(president of Nintendo) and Regi(Guy in charge of Nintendo of America) talked about stuff, like the 3DS and what their goals are and stuff.
They mentioned about how all the good updates aren't going to start until late May, which I mentioned in my last journal.
What I really like is that they hinted that at some point we might be able to use our Nintendo 3DS's to capture videos. That would be awesome!!! :iconexplodelaplz:
They also said that there is going to be a Nintendo Channel for the 3DS! :iconlawooplz:
I'm very excited about that, becuase I didn't know about it until today, and becuase I was very excited when I heard about the Nintendo Channel for the wii!
Also, I might have not have said it in my last journal, but they are going to have Netflix available for the 3DS and we will be able to watch 3D movies in 3D without the 3D glasses. That's good, becuase my eyes aren't compatible with the 3D glasses
Also, it has a few features I might have not mentioned yet, which are really awesome.
One is that it can view images taken on the wii.
The other is that it can create QR codes for mii characters, and it can scan the codes to put a mii into the mii maker thing, and the miis in there wil appear in some games in the background and stuff.
QR codes for miis look like these:
QR codes that aren't miis won't work. I've tried it
QR codes can be saved to the SD card.
I intend to get a SD card slot for the computer sometime within the next month...
I just hope they aren't too expensive, and I hope they don't require intsalling
Anyways, once I have one, I'm going to post up some newer pictures that I've taken on my wii and 3DS.
