Tomb Raider (2013)
Action-adventure video game.
Published by Square Enix
Released on 5 March 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
----OVERVIEW----10/10
Tomb Raider 2013 is an origin story and is a complete reboot of the franchise. Since 1996 Tomb Raider has been one of the biggest names in gaming, Laura Croft is known for her out outstanding beauty, thick skin, and her huge... guns. The game starts off before Laura has even killed another human being, she is not combat ready and as you progress through the game you see her becoming into the warrior we know and love. Survival is the main key to this game, you have to gather resources, outwit enemies and solve puzzles. Using your survival instincts
----STORY---- 9/10
The idea of her whole reimagining is an excitement well anticipated to look for. Laura has always been this strong and independent woman, but the girl that we meet in this game is a bit more …normal. She has emotions, if she's hurt she will show it. This is a huge switch from the battle hardened badass she has been portrayed as in the previous series.
----GAMEPLAY---- 10/10
The animations and cinamatics were an astounding example of motion capture. Camilla Luddington, an English actress did an incredible job in the world of Laura, both with the voice acting and some seriously intense motion capture. Her voice and body movements fit the reimagined character perfectly, and really brings the young Laura Croft to life. If you are a fast pace shoot from the hip player, you may find this game a bit frustrating. The gameplay is slower giving the gamers a realistic sense of the limitations of weapons and maneuvering between enemy encounters.
----GRAPHICS---- 10/10
The landscape is beautiful and detailed. Crystal Dynamics did not cut any corners when it comes to realism. At night if you don't make use of your survival instincts, you may find yourself walking a little too close to enemies and creatures. When you visit your campsite, you have the option to visit any previous one to continue exploring areas you did not have the skills, or items to access them a previous time. It's an amazing feature to help with upgrades and discovering alters and relics.
----MULTIPLAYER---- 7/10
The multiplayer in my opinion would be the games only downfall, where it is a completely different feature aside from the single player story, it was not as good. Being created by a Canadian video game development studio, Eidos Montreal. There will be three types of games for multiplayer, played in five given multiplayer maps with downloadable content soon to come. In each game there consists of two teams, one being the survivors and the scavengers. You will try to eliminate the opposing team while trying to complete your given objective of that certain game type you have selected. I'm not saying it's a complete fail, though the replay value isn't as high as you would expect because of there not being enough abilities and upgrades you can do for yourself to keep you playing for long periods of time.
